Samurai - Hand Embellished SilkScreen Art Print
After two previous successful poster creations -' Made in Japan? ' in 2012 & 'J-Dream' in 2014, this year Idlebeats is very happy and honored to collaborate with CAMERA JAPAN again for the 3rd time. To create the key visual for CAMERA JAPAN FESTIVAL 2017, which is taking place in The Netherlands from 21 Sep until 1 October.(https://camerajapan.nl/)
Under the inspiration of Japanese traditional Hanafuda, artist Nini Sum’s idea for this year's festival poster was a horizontally segmented portrait. The upper part pictures an old Samurai with a helmet, and the lower half shows a 17th century Dutch tradesman. The poster emphasizes the historical connection between The Netherlands and Japan, also fits to the theme of this year - Kyushu, where Dutch explorers had their trading posts.
The feather pen in the image is a Dutch symbol, which implies a writer/author/poet identity fitting well to CAMERA JAPAN’s mission as a cultural festival. The golden chain refers to the economy/civilization development level of The Netherlands back in the days. Nini Sum hand screen printed this poster at Idlebeats’ studio in Shanghai, and named it Samurai, which is now freshly released through Idlebeats official website and online shops.
